This fanlisting, as you may've gathered, is dedicated to Susanna Clarke's brilliant novel Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (JSMN). A lush mock-history set during the Napoleonic Wars, JSMN is a tale of magic in an England long supposed to be abandoned by the great magician monarch, the Raven King, where magic is all but dead, kept alive only by so-called 'theoretical magicians'; those who study, but wouldn't dream of practising. But when miserly bookworm Mr Gilbert Norrell demonstrates that 'practical magic' is not dead by granting the statues of Yorkshire Cathedral voice, the idea of a magical Britannia is revived.
